Betting NBA
Teasers
If you have
bet on the NBA in the past, you may or may not be familiar with NBA teasers.
Essentially, a teaser bet is a parlay
bet in which the bettor can adjust the point
spread to his or her favor.
There are
really no limits to the number of teams to include in an NBA teaser though the
most common are two-team and three-team teasers. It’s really a matter of which
sportsbook you choose. The most common NBA teasers are two- and three-team,
4.5- and 5-point teasers.

NBA Teasers
Explained
If you
aren’t as familiar with teaser bets, they are not that difficult to understand.
An example is typically the easiest way to learn about NBA teasers.
Houston +2.5
(-110) Brooklyn -8.5
(-110)
Boston -2.5
(-110) Indiana +8.5
(-110)
Let’s say
we have a two-team, five-point teaser. In this case, we like Houston and
Brooklyn. With the extra five points, we can tease the Rockets to +7.5 and
Brooklyn to -3.5.
When
Houston loses by seven points or less (or wins outright) and Brooklyn wins by
four or more, our teaser is a winner.
NBA
Scoring Margins
In
developing an NBA teaser strategy, you have to understand common scoring
margins. In NBA
scores, the most common scoring margins are 5 and 7.
Knowing
this, your teaser strategy should help you cross these numbers so that you have
a better chance of success. In our example, teasing Houston from +2.5 to +7.5
does, in fact, allow us to cross both 5 and 7.

Which NBA
Teams to Tease
Knowing
common margins of victory is one piece of the puzzle. Knowing which teams to
focus on is another. Now, we’re not talking about individual teams like the
Bulls or Lakers, but we’re talking about favorites and underdogs.
Home
favorites teased five points end up covering roughly 73 percent of the time.
Road favorites cover around 70 percent as do home underdogs. Road underdogs,
historically, have covered over 73 percent of the time in the NBA when teased
five points.
Armed with
this knowledge, you can develop a solid NBA teaser betting
strategy.
NBA
Teaser Strategy
It would
make sense then to look for big home favorites, those expected to win by say
7.5 to 9.5 points. This way, we can tease the home favorite to -2.5 to -4.5. In
doing so, we have crossed the key numbers of 5 and 7.
Our
strategy would also lead us to look for road underdogs of at least +2.5. In
doing so, we cross those key numbers - 5 and 7 - once again, which brings us a
better chance of success. Remember, road underdogs and home favorites have the
highest cover percentages when teased by five points.
You can
have success betting NBA teasers by first making sure you understand how the
bet works. Know your key numbers and know which teams make the best sense to
tease. Make sure the odds make the bet worth it before you place your wager.
Then, sit back and enjoy your winnings.
