Pick | Eagles @ Browns
Believe it
or not, both the Eagles and the Browns are in position to make the NFL’s
postseason. It’s something not usually associated with Cleveland, but the
Browns are 6-3.
The Eagles,
on the other hand, are 3-5-1 yet they lead the worst division in football - the
NFC East. Philadelphia is coming off an ugly loss to the New York Giants, who
are now 3-7 and, shockingly, in second place in the NFC East.

Injuries
Keep on Coming
Some of the
Eagles’ problems were due to injuries. Last week, Philly returned WR Alshon
Jeffrey, RB Miles Sanders, and three starting offensive linemen - Jason Peters,
Lane Jackson, and Isaac Seumalo.

Week 10 by the numbers.
Getting
those players back didn’t have the results that the Eagles had hoped for last
week against the Giants, but the issue was more with QB Carson Wentz. The
Eagles quarterback was just 21-of-37 for 208 yards last week. The offense was
atrocious on third down failing to convert any of its nine opportunities. The
Eagles went 1-for-3 on fourth down.
So far this
season, Wentz has played the worst of his young career. He leads the league in
interceptions with 12, ranks 31st in quarterback rating (71.1) and 28th in
total QBR (47.6).
Still,
Wentz and the Eagles offense will get TE Zach Ertz back this week. That is big
because Cleveland does not do a great job in covering tight ends. In fact,
opposing tight ends have a success rate of nearly 60 percent against the Browns
defense.

Cleveland
also isn’t as a good a defense as it should be. Sure, DE Myles Garrett leads
the NFL with 9.5 sacks, but the Browns rank 26th in defensive success rate and
give up 27.2 points per game (20th). Cleveland should consider itself lucky to
be 6-3 while giving up nearly four touchdowns a game.
Let’s not
forget about the Browns offense. The running back duo of Nick Chubb and Kareem
Hunt is as good as any in the league. Still, Cleveland has managed just 16
points in its last two games combined.

Philadelphia’s
defense is actually ranked tenth overall in rushing defense efficiency. The
Eagles did give up 152 yards last week on 36 carries, but 64 of those yards
came from Giants QB Daniel Jones and the zone read. Cleveland is not a big zone
read team with Baker Mayfield at quarterback.
Cleveland
is 8-1 straight up in its last nine games as a favorite at home at FirstEnergy
Stadium. However, the Browns have not covered the spread in each of their last
four games and they are just 3-6 ATS on the season.
Oh, and if
you’re looking to stay
ahead of bookies, the Eagles are 5-0 SU in
their last five games against the Browns.
